Perspectives

The idea to create a painting dedicated to pub culture was born as a result of my many years of traveling around the world. Visiting pubs in different countries, I noticed that they all share the same similarities: soft and noble colors, warm and slightly dimmed light and plenty of wood in the interior.

In one of such pubs I had a chance to participate in watching the national team soccer match and become a part of one big family. Being quite tipsy, the focus of my eyes noticeably changed and the shapes of the objects in the bar began their chaotic dances, distorting in an arbitrary order. This was the cue for action and I began to sketch fluently.... distorted perspective, chairs of intricate shapes, a bar counter with imprints of beer glasses in which fresh beer was foaming. These, and many other observations that evening, formed the basis of this painting.

Since the interior of the establishment was dominated by wood, it was decided to use this material as a basis for the painting, emphasizing the softness and velvety colors and textures with matte tempera.

The lighting of the painting itself, its warm-coldness and directionality were also subjected to multiple experiments. The light source with a range of 1500-2000 K, located in the center at the top, at a small distance from the surface, gave the desired warm effect, emphasizing the relief and adding mystery to the painting.
