Inconvenient truth
I could not avoid religion topic, as I have always been deeply convinced that for a real contact with the higher powers there is no need for intermediaries.
The main character of this picture is a man, who has no pronounced gender differences, personifying Adam and Eve in one person.
The frame records the moment of an attempt to open the box with the rotting apple of Eden, acting here as a source of inconvenient truth. The short arm and the self-cut hand of the second arm indicate the inner struggle, doubts and lack of readiness to know the truth.
Above the protagonist is the image of an evil spirit in human form, with the blood of a chewed cuttlefish oozing from its mouth. This mollusk occupies a special place in the mythology of different peoples and has a symbolic meaning that reflects cultural fears, warnings, moral lessons and ethical dilemmas associated with human interaction with the unknown or supernatural.
